Cement Needs in 2014, Market Share and Development of Cement Plants in Indonesia

Domestic cement consumption in Semester-1 2012

According to data by Asosiasi Semen Indonesia (ASI) or Indonesian Cement Association in Semester-I of 2012 mentions, total cement consumption in the country reached 25.89 million tons, up 15.1% compared to the same period last year 22.49 million tons. The figure has reached 48% of the target consumption in the country of 54 million tons.

Market share Domestic Cement


  • Semen Gresik Group is still the ruler of the largest cement market in Indonesia, with a market share (market share) 39.74% in the first half of 2012. The Company, through PT Semen Gresik Tbk, PT Semen Padang and PT Semen Tonasa, managed to sell 10.29 million tons of cement.
  • Sales PT Indocement as much as 8.55 million tonnes in the domestic market, or the market share of 33% in the first half of 2012. Sales were up 22% compared to the same period last year to 7 million tons.
  • PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk managed to sell 4.06 million cement, or an increase of 16.67% and a market share of 15.69%.
  • Other cement manufacturers, among others Bosowa and Lafarge, sold 2.98 million tonnes in the country, or a market share of 11.53%.(As reported by kemenperin.go.id website as on 07/19/12)


State-owned holding Semen Indonesia Group currently controls 44% of the domestic market (or rather 43.8%).

National Cement Needs in 2014

Minister of Industry M.S. Hidayat said,

  • the national cement demand in 2012 of 54.9 million tonnes,
  • in 2013 amounted to 58.5 million tons, an increase of 6 percent, and
  • national demand for cement will increase by 8 to 10 percent by 2014, or by 64 million tons.(As reported by http://www.tempo.co as on 22/12/13)
