Profile of ONWJ Block

ONWJ Block is situated along the coastline of the Java Sea, North East of the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta, in the 8,300-square-kilometer block, which spans from the north of Cirebon, West Java, to Thousand Islands, Jakarta.

ONWJ PSC Block:

  • covers a large area of approximately 8,300-square-kilometer and
  • extends offshore approximately 75 km and includes material oil and gas production and on-going development projects
  • with water depths ranging between 17 – 55m.

As on 30-Sep-2010 (Source: kontan.co.id),  ONWJ PSC block consists of

  • 52 fields,
  • 218 structures,
  • 141 platform (82 active),
  • 709 wells (489 producing wells).

The highest level of average daily production

The block reached its highest level of average daily production of 175,000 bpd in 1984.

The average daily crude oil and gas output in 2013

The average daily crude oil output from the offshore block reached 38,000 barrel per day (bpd) as of May 2013 or 16 percent above ONWJ’s average daily output throughout 2012. Meanwhile, the gas production has reached 200 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

PHE ONWJ oil and gas sales in 2013

PHE ONWJ operator in block ONWJ achieved production of oil and gas sales in 2013 amounted to 38,300 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and gas by 181 million cubic feet per day (mmscfd). (Sindonews.com, 4-Feb-2014)

Production Target 2014

Target set by SKK MIGAS in the revised Work Program and Budget (WP & B) 2013 are 38,000 bopd of crude oil and 175 mmscfd of gas.

Oil production in 2014 is expected to reach 39.4 mbpod and gas sales target of 179.7 mmscfd.

PHE ONWJ is the fourth largest crude oil producer in Indonesia

Currently, PHE ONWJ is the fourth largest crude oil producer in Indonesia, behind [US-based] Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Pertamina EP [another upstream arm of Pertamina], and [France-based] Total E&P Indonesie.

Currently ONWJ block gas production is to supply for domestic needs, namely, PT PLN (Persero), PT Fertilizer Kujang Cikampek and RU VI Balongan Pertamina refinery.

The ONWJ ownership (Participating Interest) and operator in 2014

The ONWJ Block is currently operated by Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java Ltd. PHE has a 58.3 percent stake in the block while the other 36.7 percent is owned by EMP ONWJ, a joint venture between Jakarta listed PT Energi Mega Persada with a company called Owen Holdings. Risco Energy holds the remaining 5 percent. Energi Mega Persada effectively holds 18.7 percent in the ONWJ block.
