Marine Energy Potential Beneficial Approximately 49,000 MW

Jakarta , KOMPAS Wednesday, November 13, 2013 , Pages 12 – Indonesian marine area has the potential to generate up to 49,000 megawatts of electricity. This capacity is greater than that generated by PLN at present.

The electrical energy can generated by utilize the potential of wave energy and ocean currents , as well as the difference in sea surface temperature and bottom.

Different from other renewables , such as :
• Geothermal
• sun
• wind , and
• biomass

which began widespread use, no one of renewable energy road map has explained this marine energy potential.

Potential survey conducted by Ocean Energy Association of Indonesia ( ASELI ) in 2011 showed the potential of 49,000 MW of ocean energy that comes from the use of sea temperature ( 43,000 MW ) , as well as ocean currents and tides ( 4,200 MW ) , as well as sea waves ( 1,200 MW ) .

In addition to the survey results ASELI , the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology ( BPPT ) and Indonesian Institute of Sciences ( LIPI ) on December 13, 2013 will launch the map of marine energy potential .

Currently a variety of technological development of ocean energy power plant ( PLTEL ) pioneered small -scale ,  by BPPT , the Ministry of Maritime , Institute of Technology Surabaya ( ITS ) and Institut Teknologi Bandung ( ITB ) .

Technology , among others :
• wave rotor
• oscillating water column , and
• Darius type

In the world , generating electricity from ocean wave energy and tidal will reach 337 gigawatts by 2050. In Asia alone , South Korea harvesting 304 MW.

Jakarta, KOMPAS Rabu, 13 November 2013, Halaman 12 – Kawasan laut Indonesia berpotensi untuk pembangkit listrik hingga 49.000 megawatt. kapasitas itu lebih besar daripada yang dibangkitkan PLN saat ini.

Energi listrik sebesar itu bisa dengan memanfaatkan potensi energi gelombang dan arus laut, serta perbedaan suhu permukaan dan bawah laut.

Berbeda dari energi terbarukan lainnya, seperti:

  • panas bumi
  • matahari
  • angin, dan
  • biomassa

yang mulai meluas penggunaannya, peta jalan energi terbarukan belum ada yang memaparkan energi laut.

Survei potensi yang dilakukan Asosiasi Energi Laut Indonesia (ASELI) tahun 2011 menunjukkan potensi energi laut 49.000 MW itu berasal dari pemanfaatan suhu laut (43.000 MW), serta arus dan pasang laut (4.200 MW) , serta gelombang laut (1.200 MW).

Selain hasil survei ASELI, Kementerian ESDM bekerja sama dengan Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) dan Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) pada 13 Desember 2013 akan meluncurkan peta potensi energi laut.

Saat ini berbagai pengembangan teknologi pembangkit listrik tenaga energi laut (PLTEL) skala kecil dirintis, antara lain oleh BPPT, kementrian kelautan dan Perikanan, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS) dan Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

Teknologinya antara lain:

  • gelombang rotor
  • osilasi kolom air, dan
  • tipe Darius

Di dunia, pembangkitan listrik dari energi gelombang laut dan pasang laut akan mencapai 337 Giga Watt tahun 2050. Di Asia saja, Korea Selatan memanen 304 MW.
